I have a Kayak xu800 on 733mhz.
I want to upgrade to dual processing but the xu800 series
requires a VRM that HP claims can only be purchased from
them in the processor upgrade kit which is like $500. I can
easily get another 733mhz chip for $100 but are there VRM's
out there for sale seperately and where?
Thanks.

First off, make sure that you don't mix steppings when you add the second 733MHz CPU. Whatever 733MHz CPU you get to upgrade your system must match in stepping (as well as frequency and voltage) to the current CPU you have.

As far as the VRM, I have no idea. About the only suggestion that I have is to try and figure out who made the motherboard and see if they have a VRM upgrade module for less. You could try and find the part number of the VRM and see if it's a 3rd party part that you can buy for less. You could buy a VRM module from someone else and just hope it fits - or describe it to them and see if they have any suggestions. That's about it for my ideas.

Do all P3's pretty much use the same VRM?
I found a 12v VRM for PII's, III's, and Xeons for about 50 bucks but I'm not sure if they'll work with the xu800 board and HP's really reluctant to say anything.
