Can someone send me a link to the firmware for the NEC-1300a that works with this media I recently bought a 50 pack and I tried to upgrade the firmware from 1.05 to 1.07 and the media is incomplatable on my winxp system, I tried burning in nero 6 and Recordnow DX... I still get incompatable media type. I downloaded the 1.07 firmware from the NEC site.

Is there a firmware hack or a different firmware i should be using thanks alot.

I tried flashing the NEC 1300a with 1.08 for this media. Apparently Nero still didn't recognize the discs. If I reflash to a hacked 1.7 FW, will it damage the drive? Cstring, the link that you posted, are those the hacked firmware under the NEC 1300a section or are they just the official ones from NEC?

Nevermind. I was able to flash it to 1.7v4. However, I'm only able to burn at 2x. Is it probably because I'm using version Nero 5.0?

I have the same problem I downloaded the Firmware Hack from http://herrie.rpc1.org/ and I can now burn them in 2x only, i tried nero 6, and recordnow dx....I downloaded the Normal (Windows Flasher) 107v4 (1.07) n107v4an.exe firmware.

Will someone please tell me which firmware burns at 4x on the NEC-1300a I really hate burning at 2x its terrible.

That's the firmware ICR5 said he used. I have 1.08 and nero 6 and it doesn't work obviously. I'll be waiting for herrie's next hacked version I suppose. Which build of nero did you use ICR5?

Edit, there's two versions of the hacked 1.07v4 firmware. Did you use a or b ICR5? A looks like the one to use if this actually is longten, but it only claims to support 2x.

Could someone that burned one of these get the media id? I can't burn one and I can't get it without burning one.

How to do it

v4 (08-10-2003)

Introduced an A and a B-version, since there was need for this :)

There is only 1 difference between the 2 version:

A offers 2x support for the discs with the following 'blank' media identifier (Longten 4x clone):

00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 F7 0E 0B .B...@....R.....

00 00 00 00 05 AA A2 22 22 20 01 00 06 0B 0F 12 ................

B offers 4x support for the discs with the following 'blank' media identifier (Pioneer 4x clone):

00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 87 0E 15 .B...@....R.....

When you went backwards from 1.08 to 1.07, did you use the windows flasher or the dos flasher?

This is the full media id

00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 52 00 02 87 0E 15 .B...@....R.....
98 9A 90 00 03 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 04 00 00 00 ................
00 00 00 00 05 CC C0 00 00 00 01 00 06 0B 10 11 ................

So it looks like we need to use the B version of 1.07.

Edit - Yeah, I can burn it at 4x with the B version, dvd decrypter and nero 6 allow 4x now.

Edit again - Just burned a 4.29 and a 4.37 gig dvd backup at 4x. Dvdinfo pro reports read errors toward the end of the disc but it plays fine in my stand alone. I guess I'll try at 2x and see if I still get the errors.

I just got the discs today and flashed my NEC 1300A to 1.08. I could only select 2x so I tried to make a test burn at 2x but immediately received an error message. Since I had to burn a DVD fast I put a TDK 4x DVD+R in the drive; to my surprise I could only select to burn at 2.4x even though all my other TDK's burned fine at 4x. Looks like 1.08 is not working good at all! :| I then downgraded the firmware to 1.07B and currently burn a Xtreme DVD-R at 4x.

Check for read errors with dvdinfo or try to rip the burned disc back to your hd. I've had two 4x burns fail to rip off the disc when complete. Fails at 95%. Just tried the same backup at 2x and it fails to rip from the disc even sooner.

Wish I would have gotten a pioneer 106.

I want to buy a box of these, but wanted to know about their copatibility with different DVD players. I want to distribute a home video to about 10-15 people (probably all with different DVD players).

If you have burned video to this disc and successfully played it back on your DVD player, could you please post --

- your DVD burner model and version
- your DVD player brand and model #

Thanks much in advance !

I tested the DVD with DVDInfo and it does not have any write errors; I am happy with the 1300A and this media so far.

Yes, a movie compressed to the max disc size.

Well then I either have a bad batch of media or a defective burner, because I've had 4 out of 4 burns produce read errors and unrippable discs. I wouldn't think it was the burner because I just reburned the same backup on memorex +r 4x media and no read errors and it rips back to the hd with no problems.

I used the windows flasher since I'm a noob at flashing and had no idea how to do it using dos.

stay away from these disks :(

tried on both the sony dru500a and the plextor 708.... both with the latest firmware and tried both nero .11 an the new.19 and got simular results with both drives and both neros.....

basically the disks burn fine (2x only unfortunately) but they burn and nero verifies them fine.... alas there are so many errors on the disks outer edges (like 4 gigs in from the dvds i tried... [pathetic) that only like the first 75% of a film is watchable then it starts breaking up (tried 3 different players an old sony a new toshiba and a new cyberhome that ussually will play ANYTHING) and result were the same on all three players..... aside from the cyberhome playing maybe 5 more minutes of the movie before breaking up like the others.....

the movies play fine on the pc drives......... just dont EVER expect to play the last bit of any movie 4gigs or more (and how many are smaller??!!:) on a stand alone dvd player.....

i'd use these for data alone personally and not important data :(

sigh....

havent tried burning at 1x not sure if that would have any effect at all.... 1x is too long for me,........ especially with the new 8x plextor..... :(

I used the n107v4ba FW on my 1300a and Nero Express OEM 5.5.10.9 .. for those who wanted to know :p

BTW: Burned the media completely full @4.3GB ( 4,627,171,328 bytes ) with a flick and n/p here so far with 15 discs used up-to-date :)
