there is also one that's xvcd, but im not sure of the type of movie file it is

Hard to say. It's not an actual standard. I *think* it should play in any software that will playback a DVD.

Well, that doesn't quite answer my question 😉

Yes it does.
DVD uses the MPEG2 codec.
SVCD, XSVCD uses the MPEG2 codec.
VCD, XVCD uses the MPEG1 codec.

how hard is that?

short answer: If you have a good standalone dvd player, it should play on your TV. As a backup plan, 99.9% of software-based dvd players will play this format.

Also, since you're obviously a newbie to this stuff, you are downloading a CD Image file. You must burn it (or use special software to 'view' it) before anything useful will happen. Then, take the cd and see if it will play in your dvd player. If it will not, then you must find a file on the disc called AVSEQ01.dat (sometimes .mpg) and open that. media player will play it, but badly. PowerDVD is better.

hopefully you'll like the first ep of '24' season 3.
