In a home network with two machines behind a Linksys wireless router, desktop XpPro can ping laptop XpHome on either wireless IP or direct connect IP (when attached) but laptop XpHome can't ping desktop XpPro.
In the past, I used terminal server/remote access and shared printers/disks between these machines. But that died sometime ago. I'd like to get this working again and discovered that I can ping in one direction but not in the other. If it were the other way around, I presume that I'd be able to connect with remote access.
I have the XP firewall turned off on both machines. Remote desktop is inabled on desktop XpPro.
Both machines can independently connect to the internet.
What would block ping in one direction but not in the other? Also what puts the machine's name/workgroup onto the local network?
Help! Thanks.
