The phones will feature capless microUSB ports and will be water and dust resistant (IP68 certification is likely). Two-day battery life will be feature of all three Xperia Z5 models, which is somewhat surprising when referring to the Xperia Z5 Premium, especially given its 4k resolution 5.5-display.

I'd say bring it on! I am guessing it has to be some kind of OLED tech. It is difficult to conceive a sentence that makes sense with "Snapdragon 810," "4K display," and "2-day battery" together, and it will be an incredible feat if Sony manages that.

4K (3840x2160) and 5.5" diagonal comes out 801 PPI, btw.

Definitely looks like an OLED screen of some kind.

This may be my next phone. Always loved Sony design. I don't care that much about Nexus anymore

As much as we'd all like to believe, I think its highly unlikely Sony has unlocked some brand new tech advantage.

There is no way a 4K screen with the S810 is going to get great performance and battery life. The GPU isn't ready for a 2K screen, much less a 4K screen.

I had a Z Ultra for a year and I just switched to the 5.5" LG G Flex 2. I'd love to pick up a monster speced 5.5" Sony. I love the design of the Z Ultra. Sexy as hell.

I had the Z3 Compact for a while and LOVED the design of it. It fit super well in the hand, really good screen, good weight to it, battery life was tops. If Android were a better fit (and I wasn't so entrenched in the AppleVerse), then I'd seriously consider the Z5 Compact if the dimensions didn't change.

Phone looks good, but the problem with Sony is their next phone is always right around the corner. Unless they've changed their "every ~6 months" plan?

I was going to say that Sony likes to sell direct, and therefore this phone probably won't even be released by any USA carriers except maaybe T-Mobile, but then I remember the Z3V. So, I guess if Verizon is interested enough to cooperate again, we'll hopefully see a Z5V or something similar.

Rumors are saying the screen will dynamically switch between 1920x1080 and 3840x2160 for the sake of battery life.

Even if there was a point to a 4K mobile display. This makes it even less sense. So it's going to run at non native resolution half the time?

Yeah that's a head scratcher right there. Luckily I have no interest in the giant phablet, either the regular or the compact for me.

It can't imagine AMOLED tech suddenly advanced enough to allow for 4k without destroying battery life, so they are doing some sort of scaling or something to save the battery, there just isn't really any other option unless sony has been hiding some secret tech.

Using the same pixel sampling Apple uses every time they bumped a device up to retina.

It's been shown to work well. It's not like you'll get a blurry screen.

Man that glass back is such a bummer... My sister got a Z3 Compact and the back cracked by itself... Hoping warranty will replace it (her phone is like 2 months old), seeing good results on the web with comments. But still, she'll be out a phone for a while again...

Apart from that, the Z5 Compact looks perfect for me. Battery on my One M8 is crap, so looking for a new smartphone. Stock Android is also pretty epic :awe:

What is interesting is that the regular Z5 is "only" 1080p. (5.2" diagonal)

Nice phone but WTF is up with the bezels.
4 generations of Z phones already and they can't shrink the top and bottom bezels ??
Remembered when Sony has the smallest bezels of any phone in the ZL ???
Hell, just make a phone like the ZL and I'd be more interested in them.

I want to add that Sony has the best implemetation of front speakers of anyone out there. I wish more would follow suit.
The way Google and Moto does their is ugly.

From my experience with the Z Ultra, the Sony phones have a very premium feel. I'd love to own the Z5 Premium if the battery life is solid. A near stock Android with an awesome camera and a 4k display thrown in for the hell of it would be cool.

Unfortunately, I imagine the price will be too high for me. I'll 100% pick one up if they go the way of the Z Ultra and get discounted nicely after a year or so. Probably won't happen though as the Z Ultra probably sold horribly because its so large which resulted in the price cuts.
