XP3200+ to 64

ok I have a 3200+ @ 2.3GHz and wont go any higher and a 6800nu o/c a little bit. would i get a noticeable difference if I went to at least a 3000+64 or 3200+64 and o/c them cus my framerates in cs:s and hl2 are not that good and i was wondering if I jumped to the 64's it would make a good difference. i know in the benches it did and i looked at them all but i want to know some of ur guys' opinions that have had a chip like mine and went to the 64's cus i want to be able to play cs:s at MUCH higher fps to make it smoother

youd think with that setup you'd get decent frames, but I guess if you want more then go for it, monarch has some good deals on some 754 and 939 64s. I'd say if you have the money and dont mind spending about ~200 - 220 then you should do it.

There would be a difference, but not worth the cost IMO. you would need a new mobo and CPU. I would wait until you want to upgrade to a PCI-e board and s939...

What is your reslt on the video stress test and what resolution/serttings are you using? Even at 1600x1200, maxed out I can get over 60 FPS with my 6600gt.

on the cs:s stress test i get 113fps @1280x1024 no af/aa and my fps in game constantly drop below 50fps and sometimes dip in the 30's. of course sometimes my fps is at like 120fps but then it dips down so damn much and it studders sometimes. my cpu wont o/c higher which sux but when i did o/c higher it lasted for a little bit and it ran sweet

I'd wait because it would be pretty stupid IMO to get an AGP mobo ATM because you will find it difficult to upgrade later on. Assuming your using HIGH settings in the CS:S options,, you could tone them down a notch to medium.

I'd probably wait for a dual core CPU. By the end of this year, or early next year, you'll be able to get a dual core CPU, an R520/G70 GPU, and a nice PCIe mobo for a reasonable price. Personally I won't upgrade till I can at least double my performance, and the move from XP3200->64-3000 isn't even close.

How much memeory do you have? You'd be better spending money on upgrading to 1 GB if you don't have that much currently.
And maybe try updating your VC and MB chipset drivers. That can definitely make a difference.

i have 1GB which did make a big difference IMO and yes all my stuff is up to date. its just that i had wanted to o/c the hell outta my 3200+ but it wont go over 207MHz FSB which bummed me out
