xp3200 barton or xp3200 thorton

Hey all...

I just ran CPU-Z version 1.24 and it identified my xp3200 as the Barton core
then i ran C.B.I ... Central Brain Identifier Version 7.2.0.9 Build 0909 Final
and it identified the core as Thorton w/512k with a version number of 11 which is meant to be the Thorton according to C.B.I FAQ.

My question has two parts.

1. Why the different core reads?... and yes I know they are different "extractors".
2. Which is faster/better/more overclockable.. xp3200 barton or xp3200 thorton w/512k.

I left out the important "w" for Thorton with/512k

the thorton is the barton with 256k of the cache disabled. so, i have no idea what a thorton/512k would be. a thorton would probably hit a slightly higher clock, but the barton would probably be faster (barton speed + ~300MHz = thorton/tbred speed). so, it is a barton, and should probably be able to hit 2.4 on decent air. if you are running the stock hsf, do not bother trying - the cpu will get hot quickly then.

its kinda tricky, even though it says thorton 512kb and barton, you still got a proc w/ 640kb 🙂

HUH?

So a thorton has 256k active?
a barton has 512k activ?

if a barton runs faster than a thorton, why would you say a barton + 300mhz be just as fast as a thorton?

i'm confused
