I was just reading on that at a bunch of retailers the 2200+ dropped from @ 210$ to 155$ over night... I wonder if this means new chips are about to be announced.... anyway, I think it's a pretty warm deal.....

Tbred 2200+ @ TCWO

A more likely explanation is that the retail chips are due to ship any day now. There are some retailers taking preorders for the retail package around $200, so they have to bring the oem price down.

AMD XP 2400+, 2600+, 2800+ Demand is just very low. The newer chips will not be out until later in the year. Retail is always behind OEM pricing. The retail should always be $6 - $10 more than the OEM street price.

OEM is Original equipment manufacture.

OEM is Original equipment manufacture. These parts are meant for system houses and not the general public. You will receive no warranty from the manufacture when buying a OEM chip. The only warranty you will receive is from the seller. Buy from a reputable company.

Retail CPU?s, usually only about $10 more, come with a manufacture warranty. Regardless of where you purchased (in most cases) the CPU, you may send it to the manufacture for replacement.

My guess is he meant to say that he was reading this information from |H|, as an abbreviation for |H|ardOCP.

I just thought I'd mention since I've done the same thing before. :p

you are correct... and I guess this is a hot deal..... it puts almost ALL CPU's from AMD at lower pricepoints than any intel offering above 1.8 Ghz I believe.....

well the 1.8 Ghz P4 is about 144$ so give or take some $ :)

Correct, price drops by Intel have aleady been announced. Big news is they moved up the price change about a month ,now set for Sept. 1st. The article I read said Intel wanted to have more time for Xmas sales of their new chips. You all know AMD will follow suit and maybe even one -up- them a little. Don't you love competition? Faster & cheaper = good. Check these links ripped from silence at The Techzone.com/ forums: Text www.geek.com/procspec/amd/k8.htm http://www.chip-architect.com/news/...lineStages.html http://www.chip-architect.com/news/...lineStages.html http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/story.html?id=1011297004

Text Also this blurb: Mobo makers give details on Intel price cuts

Come on dowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn! DigiTimes has the low-down on upcoming price cuts on Intel's Pentium 4 processors:
Taiwanese motherboard makers shed additional light on Intel?s reported decision to move up price cuts on some Pentium 4 processors to September 1 from the originally scheduled October 27 (see table).
On July 23, the Wall Street Journal and CNET had reported Salomon Smith Barney analyst Jonathan Joseph as saying that Intel would cut the price of its top-end 2.53GHz P4 processor by 63% and the price of its 1.8GHz P4 by 13%.

However, price cuts on the 2.5GHz and above processors will not take place until Intel?s 3.06GHz chip arrives on the market.

63% price drop is a lot Jack!

I think hardware in general is getting way ahead of software for the common folks. We need better software e.g.. games and such to take advantage of the hardware on that note, does anyone here currently investing in stocks of any software company? Your recommendations and any additional supporting infos are appreciated.

Oh, there's a need for the speed...and I'm getting close to caving for a new machine. My dinosaur just spent 14 hours converting the latest Harry Potter (17 discs) to MP3 for the car's jukebox. I end up ripping to .wav, then batch converting 'cause it takes so damned long to resample & convert. Until I can rip, downsample, and convert at the DAE speed of my drive (~24x), I won't be happy.

Actually, now that I come to think of it, you may as well throw in Divx conversion from .vob's at the rip speed of my DVD drive.

Oh, yeah, I can use the speed...

The reason you are highlighting it is because you typed

I was just reading on [ H ]

Which the forum code reads as the code for highlighting, so you need to go and edit the [ H ] and put spaces between the brakets.....

BTW WOW What a Deal
