XP2200+ / 8K3A+ problems, not recognizing cpu correctly

I just got a new XP 2200+ proc and 8k3a+ mobo, and the motherboard only recognizes the processor as an XP 1500+ if I go to change the speed in the bios(newest revision - 8/15/02) the highest core frequency I can use is 255, the processors core is 266 I'm pretty sure. when I do set it to 255x13 though, it won't even post, I get the C1 memory error. In another note, the motherboard had a sticker that says EP-8K3A+ over the original "EP-8K3A" printing on the board. The HighPoint RAID is recognized though, so I'm pretty sure it is the "+" model... I tried running it out of the case, same problem... how can I get it to recognize my processor correctly???

Thanks a bunch for any help.

Uh...

Don't try to run at 255mhz FSB... good chance you could fry the CPU.

Drop that 255 to 133mhz FSB, and try 13.5x133...

Good luck...

Hehe... We all screw up somewhere or another... try that, come back here, and let me know if its working correctly.

Good luck.

Nope, same problem, it'll still post(if I clear the cmos via jumper) as a 1500+(100x13.5) but the manual multiplier settings don't do 13.5, only 12 or 14(halfsteps under 13 I think) I tried it as 133x13 and nothing, also, if I manually set it to 100x13, I still don't get jack.

grrr, I thought I had it, but now it's doing it again, sometimes it posts as 2200+ somethimes 1500+ but more often it just doesn't post

Do you have the latest BIOS for the motherboard? Also, epox boards usually have a jumper for setting a FSB range (100 or 133). Make sure you set the jumper to 133.

Most mobos have an issue with the 13.5X Multiplier Tbred 2200+.
http://www.beachlink.com/candjac/index.htm link to Tbred article for sections describing this issue and several workarounds which are able to solve the no post/no boot problem. Also links to sites that discovered the original workaround relating to the 5th L3 bridge.

ARGH, I switched memory to some ECC I had laying around and got it to recognize as 2200+ after playing around in the bios a bit, but the processor went up like a forest fire and the motherboard is dead as well, I'm not sure at this point if I need to be contacting AMD or EPoX it was working fine @ 1350, but as soon as I got it to recognize at 133xauto-multiply(13.5) it all went south... 🙁 if anyone has any suggestions please let me know... thanks
