XP2000+ Core Voltage?

According to this PDF on the AMD site the core voltage for a 2000+ is 1.65V. My new Gigabyte GA=7VAXP defaults to 1.74V. Why the difference?

I was hoping that the XPs would run a little cooler then they do. My old 1.2Ghz Tbird runs about 10C cooler, in the same style case with the same fan configuration. Looks like I will need to get more fans. 🙁

Palomino = 1.75V
Thoroughbred = 1.65V

You most likely have a Palomino, so your 1.74 seems okay. Its just undervolting a little, no big problem.

Your 2000+ was near the end of the limit for the Palomino processor (maxed out at 2100+), usually the fastest processors of the cpu cores have a very high temp. The 1.4 Tbird was extremely hot, I believe the hottest desktop processor (correct me if I am wrong) ever. Even though the AXP1600+ under the Palomino process runs at 1.4, it is still much cooler than the TBird did. Your CPU is just the 2nd hottest Palomino available, hence why it runs so hot.

Since your 1.2 isn't the hottest, and your AXP2000+ just about is, thats the reason for the temp change. I am pretty sure a AXP1600+ will run cooler than your old 1.2 Athlon, even though its at a faster clock speed because its the lowest of the Palomino process.

What are your temps? If you aren't OCing, I don't think temps are that big of a deal (unless you're hitting over 50C idle)...

Hope this helped...

On one system I was looking at was hitting 60C IDLE! But it looks like it has a faulty CPU fan, this morning the wife reported that it made some ratteling noises getting started, but it is now at 50C, which is more in line with one in a similiar case. We have, for cosmetic reasons, Antec Gemstone cases, they did fine with a 450Mhz P3 and even the Tbird, but now with this new processor it looks like the air flow is all wrong. 🙁 I am going to stick another case fan in as well as replaceing the potentially bad CPU fan, see if that helps. I have a 3rd 2000+ in a different style case with the fan/hs that comes with the retail processor running at 42C idle, so I do know how to mount a Hs/fan!

The PDF I linked to lists 2 varities of 2000+, but one is 1.6V the other 1.65V.~^ It identifies them by CPUID, but neither corresponds to what I am seeing on my processor. I kind'a bothers me that I am unable to locate this type of information, on the AMD site. I ran into this when I was looking for the multiplier information, yes I can compute it, but I also like to know that I can find the real deal info. I'll keep digging!

Thanks for your responses.
Update:
Just replaced the Thermaltake Volcano 5 with the retail boxed fan, temp seems to be stable 43C idle. Much better.
