XP2: The ordinal 233 could not be located-SHDOCVW.DLL

After upgrading to XP2 my Norton Antivirus 2004 has been giving me this error:

AXWIN Frame Windows: cfgwiz.eze - Ordinal Not Found
The ordinal 233 could not be located in the dynamic link library SHDOCVW.DLL :disgust:

This error message pops up like 5 times and then Norton comes up in a blank window.

I also get this message when accessing certain help files.

I tried searching for help here but the suggestions didn't work. :brokenheart:

So far I have ordered a copy of SP2 via CD and installed it based on a recommendation that the DLL in the downloaded SP2 was corrupted. This didn't make a difference.

So I went into System32\ and System32\dllcache and renamed the Sep 29th, 2004 version of the DLL and copied the August 04, 2004 file into the directory. This didn't work either.

Any suggestions? 😕

SHDOCW.DLL is protected by Windows File Protection, so you need to disable that if you want to replace it.

What is the version of the one on your system though? AFIK, 6.0.2900.2518 is the latest.

I guess I was able to get around this by changing the file extension in multiple places. The older file that I replaced it seemed to stick.

This is the version that I was using but since I've been getting errors I thought that reverting to an older one would help. So far there doesn't seem to be any difference. Maybe mine is corrupted? Can you send me your's?

I doubt manually replacing dll's in going to fix the problem. Have you considered uninstalling/reinstalling Norton?

Yes, that's one of the first things I did. I don't think it's Nortons fault. There's something wrong with the DLL itself because some programs can't run the help function anymore because it calls on this DLL.
