xp1700 + k7sem- is this going to work?

hi- i've been running an 800 duron on an ecs k7sem- i know not exactly high-tech- and i've ordered an xp1700 that according to ecs will work in this board. now i'm hearing that it won't? anybody running this combo or have any first-hand knowledge? is there any chance of damaging my new chip? any precautions i should take before trying it? thanks for any help 🙂

IIRC, later revisions of SiS 730S offically support 266fsb. I would go into your BIOS and see if you can set the front side bus setting to 133MHz. If you can then your board will run a XP 1700+, but if you only have 100MHz, then you can't run a Xp 1700+ at 1700+ speeds. It'll only run at 1.1GHz rather than 1.46GHz

thanks athlon4all for responding. do you know if i can just pop the chip in the mobo- or do i need to adjust any voltage settings? i'd hate to fry my new 1700 🙁 it's ok if it runs a little slow for now- i plan on getting a new mobo in the near future.

Yes you can just pop it in (with a Heatsink Fan😉). The BIOS should automatically up the voltage to 1,75 (Duron 800 is 1.5v). You should be all set!

I wouldn't like running this mobo with a 133FSB Athlon because I've had problems running @133 on other mobos based on this chipset (like Acorp). If you need integrated graphics, go for a KM133A chipset since it supports 133FSB perfectly. There are motherboards by gigabyte, biostar and MSI on this chipset
