I've had good experiences with the thermalright heatsinks. I just recently upgraded from a xp-90 w/ 90mm quiet panaflo to a xp-120 w/ a 120mm panaflo and the xp-120 blows the xp-90 away. I can turn off the fan completely and have idle temps of 28-30c and with my panaflo fan on very low settings it would stay around 27c but if i put my panaflo fan at max settings it doesn't really make a difference. My room temperature is around 27c. My a64 3700+ SD is at 2.85ghz @1.4v

btw i have a lian li v1000b so that might play a big part in my temps as well.

Just bought the Zalman 9500 yesterday. Runs 24C at idle and 44C under load (prime 95 on both cores) at 1350rpm which is clasified as "silent" mode. On thats setting, it really is inaudible. No problems with the base hear, my one was scratch free and perfectly flat.

btw: im using the included thermal paste too. Does anyone know how good the paste that comes with the zalman coolers is? Is it worth getting arctic silver?

Thats awesome...you went for the 9500 🙂 Very nice temps by the way. AS5 might get you 1 maybe 2C lower temps. imo....not worth the reinstall. Cheers 🙂

MixMan -- I hope you didn't order the 80mm "Smart Fan II." The two ThermalTake fans I can tolerate now are the Blue LED 120mm and Blue LED 92mm fans. I believe they both run at 12VDC 0.48Amps. Sometimes the 92 has no motor whine -- other times -- different samples -- it does -- at between 3,200 and full-throttle 3,600 rpm. The 120 has a very slight motor whine at 2,300 to top-end of 2,800 rpm.

I would think for the Typhoon that you should try the Blue LED 120mm, unless ThermalTake makes another model, perhaps with a plain black shroud, which pushes up to 80 CFM.

I bought the 120mm Blue Led fan. Hopefully not much motor whine, but I probably wouldn't hear it anyway, my pc probably wouldn't classify as silent pc of the year. I have 2 120mm fans (Antec case fan, Antec Smartfan), Vantec Spectrum Fancard. My case temps are still a little high though, even though my room is usually air conditioned.
I suspect the Antec P160 case is not the best for cooling, but is is convenient though.

I am thinking of getting the XP120 or the Si120 and having a slugout with the Typhoon and see what is the best.

Thast what I am doing as we speak.....

I have the XP120 instsalled and I am going to reinstall the Zalman 9500 and retest the heatsink!!

Also a note...you stated..

That is the best as far as your particular system goes.....🙂

Do you mean the Typhoon is the best for my system or the fact that I want to test them all to see which is best ?

I think testing them would be a real good idea.....

Just like I am doing with the zalman 9500 and the XP120...

🙂
