Ok, I am building a computer and need an OS..

I am thinknig the xp Pro but I am confused on the pricing. On new egg it is 139 but when i go to my college which is suppose to be cheaper its like 229! I am confused on why if it is suppose to be cheaper for college students it isnt.

also is there anywhere else i can find it for cheaper?

Or i could just go for home....All pro really has is remote desktop right? There are some good programs taht do the same thing.

Call the college bookstore and ask them for the student pricing.

XP Pro offers alot more like hyper-threading and dual processor support. Check out the Windows XP Comparison Guide.

The Home vs. Pro question has been beaten to death here ...do a search.

-from the current Langalist Newsletter
"...it (XP Home) lacks some features that Microsoft thought wouldn't be useful to Home users. In some cases, Microsoft was wrong. Some of Pro's networking features, for example, are very useful on larger home-use LANs."

"My general advice has been and remains: If the money isn't a problem, get XP Pro/Full because it gives you the most flexibility, features, and support life."

because, that 229 price is for a retail copy, 139 is for OEM, OEM is the one w/ the COA Sticker and one use policy, its made to be used with one pc and only one pc

right?

You can, but you need to either a) remove it from the first computer or b) obtain a second license.

The 229 is also for one and only one PC... You just get a fancy box and book with it.
