XP-works for about 5 munites, freezes, then crashes

I've been having problems with XP for a few weeks now. It was crashing before because it said it had a corrupted filein it. I did a clean reinstall and it was working fine for about 2 weeks. During the last couple of days though, it's started to freeze and crash again. when i play music the song suddenly starts to skip and become choppy everytime i move the mouse. I thought maybe playing music was theproblem but it still crashed without it.

memory?
bad hard drive?
another corrupted file?

help me out.

Try replacing the RAM first. Or if you have multiple sticks in there remove all of them except one.
