Did you disable it? It's a popular tweak for people to do since most people use a 3rd party burning software.

Roxio easy cd creator is your friend 🙂 the XP burner is really slow.

i can burn a 74 min CD in less than 5 mins on my 40X with E-Z CD. but takes 40 mins in XP 🙁

i usually use nero, and im pretty sure it works. but for quick burns of a couple files, xp works great. except now it isnt available. 'I' didnt disable it, where can I check?

Right click My Computer... Manage... Services and Applications... Services... IMAPI CD Burning COM Service should be set to manual to allow Windows to burn CD's.

ok, did that. and i also pushed start, and rebooted. no go.
It doesnt seem to be using the right driver maybe. When you right clikc the drive in device manager you dont get that rightmost 'recording' tab where you can list the speeds. I have this same problem with 2 other memorex cdrw's at work. but this one was on my work pc and i was the only one who did have that tab and could burn with windows.
you know, if i try to update driver and choose from list, here are my choices.
CD-ROM Drive
CD-ROM Drive (force cdda acurate)
CD-ROM Drive (force CDDA inaccrate)
CD-ROM Drive (force IMAPI disable)
CD-ROM Drive (IMAPI settings 0,1)
CD-ROM Drive (IMAPI settings 0,2)
CD-ROM Drive (IMAPI settings 0,3)
CD-ROM Drive (IMAPI settings 0,4)
CD-ROM Drive (IMAPI settings 0,5)
CD-ROM Drive (IMAPI settings 1,0)
CD-ROM Drive (IMAPI settings 1,1)
CD-ROM Drive (IMAPI settings 1,2)
CD-ROM Drive (IMAPI settings 1,3)
CD-ROM Drive (IMAPI settings 1,4)
CD-ROM Drive (IMAPI settings 1,5)

I think its using the first one now. should i ty a different one?

ok, now the really bad news. I popped in my old cdrw10x and it came up as being recordable in windows. great, so i compared every driver and version and date. they are exactly the same. bad.
also i have gone to the dcrom firmware site and ran their program. it already has the latest firmware.
so now the question why at work and not here. they are almost identical computers. the only real difference is work is nforce and here is viakt400
