Building a new computer. First time on a DFI nf4 ultra with a 160gb sata. Booted up posted fine used seagate tool on auto to prep the drive. Popped windows cd rom after reboot and it hung on detecting hardware. I checked everything and it looks fine. I put the seagate tools disk back in and now it won't load. windows still hangs at detecting hardware.

I was thinking it was a windows install disk but two didn't work. I tried deleting the partition and starting all over but the seagate won't load.

any suggestions? please

Does the XP install CD have SP1 or SP2 on it? If not you're looking at the 137gb limitation that the original XP had. You also said you used a tool to prep the drive... can you delete/recreate the partitions during the XP setup and NOT use that prep CD? Many of those types of CDs can really screw up installs...
Hope it helps :)

Thanks for the reply. I spent some time researching and it appears usb sometimes doesn't play well on some boards on setup. I put adapters on the mouse and keyboard and reset cmos and all worked well.

..I had the same prob wit a biostar M7VIF mob that was running good under w98se. Couldn't get xp setup to run..or it would give me a diag.box that said I have no HD installed. So I yanked the VIF and installed a Asus A7V8V-X and it works like a champ. May have been a KT333 issue with sp1/2..really don't know but the Asus has the KT400 chipset. Running 2 weeks now 24/7 no failures.
