Yamaha 16/10/40 IDE (latest firmware)

on IDE2/slave (master is CDROM)
IDE1 is two hard drives

XP Pro

It detects it as a CD rom drive, and since yamaha doesn't have drivers for XP (they say the drivers for it are on the CD), well I'm stuck using the ones windows finds on the XP CD, which is CD rom drivers...
so basically it detects it as a CD rom drive only, so those are the drivers it installs...

I browsed the XP CD and I found nothing about CDRW drivers...

can anyone help me?

Did you clean install XP with the CDRW installed? I find that with my Plextor, if I add it after XP is installed, the correct driver won't be installed and it'll show up as "cd-rom". BTW, even if the correct driver is still installed, it'll still say "cd drive" in My Computer. However, if you right click it and click properties, there's a "recording" tab.

if you can still burn, it doesn't matter. Both my DVD and CD-RW came up as CD-ROM in windows xp

Haven't tried this, but you might set it as master and see what happens. Btw, my HP 8100i, which is on the compatibility list for XP is called a cd-drive in XP, but I can burn to it also. My Pioneer DVD drive is called a DVD-Drive. I don't think that XP makes a distinction for any CD-R or CD-RW drives.

I got it to show as a CD-RW in the My Computer window by putting it on Master, then rebooting.

now I need the latest ASPI32 drivers for XP..
