XP- Windows Update stopped working....

On my XP box, when I go to Windows Update, it looks like it's going to scan, but it goes straight from 0% to 100% in a split second and says no updates found.

I know for a fact there are new updates (i downloaded them manually).

Is there any way to "reset" Windows update??

Same thing happened to me. About 2 months ago Windows Update started reporting no updates...but the day before I had 9 updates waiting to be installed. Anyone?

Anyone besides me and Cherub having this problem????

Sounds like his is identical to mine and happened about the same time...

I'm totally guessing here, but I remember it seemed to be around the time I started playing Grand Theft Auto III, and had to install the WinXP patch that was apparently part of service pack 1. Also, around the same time period I had a hardware problem and WinXP suddenly asked me to re-activiate, which I did without any problem.

I just throw these out...they may have no connection, but it's worth a shot to fix this rather irritating problem.

P.S. Where can I get the manual updates/patches?

Johnbear007, see my link in the message above yours. Thts where you get the updates manually.

Don't be fooled, it looks identical to the standard windows update, but you download the updates to a directory on your hard drive.

Here it is again so you dont have to scroll up: Windows updates

Sometimes the update site gets screwed up and wont work right. Happened to me a couple times. Once it had updates but couldnt open update page..did that for 3 days and I thought something was wrong with my installation... then suddenly it worked fine with no changes to my OS.
