I have a good internet connection with a cable modem (I am able to post this message), yet I am not able to use the Windows Update feature or download any media file that uses windows media player format. Windows update tell me "There was a problem in connecting to the Internet. To attempt to connect again, click Try Again." Windows media player tells me "Unable to estalish a connection to the server." Windows media player says this is a problem with the server but I tried to play about 20 files from the internet and all give the same message in media player so I'm sure it is not the remote server. Does anyone know what my problem could be?
By the way, I am using Windows XP Professional.

I've seen this problem with the Devil's own copy of XP, if this is not the case go to services and make sure Automatic Update is running.

I don't know what kind of copy of XP this is. If this is the problem, or if it is a similar problem in another version, does anyone know how to fix it? I checked in services and automatic update is running. Also, I have been able to do the automatic update and media player with this version of XP in the past.

Run MP9. Click on "Help/Check for Player Updates." You can download various plug-ins from third parties or from Micosoft. A couple plug-ins are for enhancing the MP9 sound and for surround sound. An easy to use menu comes up listing various plug-ins. Might help with your problems.

If you have a dial-up service make sure you are logged onto your ISP before selecting to update to the plug-ins. :)
