XP Windows defender vs Comodo Anti-Spyware + Avast?

What's the latest story on how useful Windows defender for XP is as compared to just using something like Comodo + Avast instead?

Last I heard the detection / repair rates for defender were pretty bad and there seemed no real reason to use it except on Vista where it is installed by default.

Is there benefit / harm to adding it in to the mix with Avast / Comodo + Defenter,
or Defender + Kaspersky IS or whatever?

Is there a downside to it in general on XP, i.e. hidden costs for updates down the road, inability to remove it,
or so on?

Thanks in advance!

Windows Defender is pretty much a waste of resources.

I would just stick with SuperAntiSpyware or Kaspersky IS. It will not really cause you any problems having in installed, but it is one of the first things I disable when setting up a new PC.
