I have fdisked, formatted, killed the mbr on 2 differernt hard drives and xp wont have it. If i try to upgrade me it copies files, restarts, shows the new black windows screen and then the screen goes black and its over !! I have tried the fresh install as well with the same results. I have flashed my bios, tried scsi drivers (even though my mobo is not raid), taken out every piece of hardware accept my vid card but still no go. Here are my system specs.

Abit kt7 w/ 396 megs pc133 ram
creatvie 52x cd rom
visiontek geforce 3 ti 500
tbird 1200 not oc,ed

I have seen simillar issues around and it seems it may be my vid card. Just wanted to see what you guys have heard.

Thanks,
turdhat

Well, I had same experience.
Couldn't upgrade, or clean install.
I disabled the Audio on MSI K7t pro2a, then I could install w/o any problem.

You don't need any Fdisk.
If you can boot from CD-Rom, put the Xp cd and boot. You can make partitions and format the drive with it, and much faster.

I was having problems installing xp too. Setting the RAM back to the default settings fixed it.

It's the GeForce 3 Ti 500. I've got a similar setup as yours. I had the same problem until I popped my GeForce 2 GTS back in and it finally installed. First I tried the "upgrade" method and it told me my GeForce 3 wasn't compatible. Then I tried a clean install and the same thing occurred--a black screen and then it died. It's funny because after you finally get it installed and go to the Windows Upadate web page, it has drivers for the GeForce 3 available. Why doesn't it work when doing the "upgrade" method?
