Hello,

Just wondering what everyones opinions are on using AMD XP's instead of MP's on a dual board.
Any horror stories ?

The XP's that are shipping now have an L5 bridge cut that disables SMP operation. Ain't gonna work unless you reconnected it. If you do, they should work however you run the risk of getting an XP that has faulty SMP logic, but that hasn't stopped many of us. :)

You may have got one that was made before they did the L5 thing. Look at the L5 trace nearest to the middle of the processor and you can see if it's been cut or not.

I was just wondering if I should start a new post on this.....

That really sucks, then, cuz i was just about to order from newegg, two new 1900's for my cousin's system. So now I'll have to buy them used from someone on the boards? Or, just buy MP, which'll be like $100 more.....oy.

it's an easy way to make peeps buy the more expensive chip. as u said the chips are identical but some have the bridges cut. xp's do work on a dual setup.
