Installed XP upgrade from 98SE, Installs fine until final reboot then it restarts to black startup screen with just video card name on it. It is a Geforce 3 ti200 with 128ddr. I have changed bios settings around and currently have them on the default safe settings, I have reformatted and reinstall 98, updated everything on 98 and have 30.82 Nvidia drivers installed. Also no anti virus is installed. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get past this? Thanks

While still in 98 remove the video card driver and use the generic driver. I've never had that specific problem but on some trouble upgrades I've found that to help.

One other thing you can try. I noticed you said that you reformatted and installed Win98. Presumably, you have the XP upgrade disc, and not the full version.

You can actually install the upgrade version WITHOUT an existing OS on the drive, as long as you have a CD with a previous OS on it (which, apparently, you do).

If going with the generic VGA driver fails, give this a shot. You may even want to do this regardless of the video driver, because (as most people will tell you) Microsoft has not been very successful at writing upgrade packages, and it's usually better to do a clean install if possible.

Good luck!!
