XP updates & SP1 slow system down?

When I first put this system together, it rocked! 3DM2K1=11,500 default. In my favorite racing sim, I was getting 100-140 fps @ 1280 x 960 x 32. Now, after adding all the updates and SP1, My default 3DM score fell to 10,700 and my sim averages 50-60 fps, or half of what it was. All settings remained the same. I wasn't having any problems or issues before all the updates. I'm thinking reformat and screw the updates! 😛

I've had some weirdness too. Unfortunately, I did the SP1 update at the same time with some other changes (games and drivers)

I am questioning SP1 as a possible source of my problems. (It almost seems like M$ tried to "fix" things that weren't broken)

(If you're interested, I put my question in This Thread

Well, I just reformatted and loaded my usual utilities and drivers. I haven't d/l or installed any updates or SP1 and my system's performance is back up to where it should be. 🙂

I'm not updating unless this configuration starts having issues.

I just installed the cumulative security patches for both Explorer and Media Player but as far as SP1? Forget it. The only reason I wanted it was to see if it resolved the XP/Nvidia GF4 refresh rate issue which it did...FOR D3D ONLY!! 🙁 Since I run my main game in OpenGL, SP1 didn't do me any good. Don't need it. don't want it.

I dunno what to make of it now. I was having problems with my voice activation software so I installed SP1. It corrected the problem WITHOUT any performance hit this time around.
