XP-Unable to run file search unless connected to internet

Yesterday I was forced (and I mean forced - you could not view anything other than their homepage until downloaded) to download a new dialer from PeoplePC.com. Since that download I am not able to run a file search of my local drives without being connected to the internet. If you are not dialed in and go to run a search it states that it cannot because it is not connected to the internet.
I tried contacting their help desk ( after 2 total hours on hold ) and they are not familiar with this problem. The only thing they could suggest is that I was trying to run an internet search instead of a local file search. I can promise that is not the case.
Is anyone familiar with an option to change this? I have tried MS tech net and their online knowledge base, but left empty handed.:disgust:

You could uninstall their dialer.......

or disable it(which probably won't work, but never hurts to try).....

since that is the point where your problems first started happening....

other then that quik fix i would have to test it out....

I forgot to add the fact that I rolled the system back to 2 hours before I downloaded the dialer.

but is the dialer still on your system?

if it is, it might still be causing problems, go into Add/remove programs and see if it has an uninstall package,
