XP turned my DVD drive into a CDROM!

I just realized that in XP my DVD drive, a NEC DV-5700A, is now listed as a CDROM. Anyone else had this problem and know any drivers or anything that could help? Also, my VIA ide bus is messed up, and I can't get XP to find the drivers on the VIA CD that came with my MB or on my HD where I installed the 4 in 1 drivers. Thanks

Identifying your DVDROM as a CDROM is normal for XP. It doesn't make one bit of difference in how it operates.

As far as the VIA bus mastering driver problem, the VIA drivers are not installed by an .inf file like other drivers, so that is why XP can't find them on your CD. Find the executable for the VIA 4-in-one driver, and run it. That will load the bus master driver you require. Reboot after running the executable, and your bus mastering driver should work fine.

By the way, you don't really have to load the VIA bus mastering driver - the bus mastering driver built in to XP should work just fine.
