XP SP2a

Does anyone have an idea when MS will release SP2a? If there are so many problems with SP2, MS has to do something about it, right?

1. There are no plans to release a "SP2a".

2. There are not "so many problems with SP2"; the vast majority of installs are just fine. Considering the code they've updated in SP2 (nearly everything) SP2 has done a very good job.

If there are problems with XP SP2, its due to an application that was improperly designed and therefor needs to be fixed by the developer of that application.

And if there are other problems, its usually do to user error (ie not configuring or not disabling the windows personal firewall)

XP SP2 is a solid and well tested product.

XP SP1a was simply released due to legal issues reguarding Java and Sun. It was not a bug fix release.

I agree with all of the above, I have seen SP2 installed on many machines without any problems at all. I think SP2 is a very worthwhile upgrade for all XP users.

SP2 is solid and stable. What problems do you have??

same here,no problems whatsoever.

SP2 is excellent!! Probably one of the smoothest SP's to upgrade to. I have had no problems except with Asus's WinDVD suite where it suddenly thinks i dont have an Asus M/B anymore and wont let me install the software? Who knew!? All i have to do is install XP install WinDVD then install SP2. Though it is kind of an inconvenience ill deal with it.

Actually the rumor about SP2 being somehow "bad" is passed around with alarming frequency. From what I have experienced, rolling it out across many clients, there is no truth to the rumors. It's FUD, plain and simple.

What I've found is that it works great as a clean install [ie slipstreamed ] . The troubles come in when you upgrade and there are some drivers left behind and some are updated and others arent etc

My dad works for the govt (Consular Affairs) and they are still on 2000IIRC. From what he says they go through and eliminate some things strip it down fix security holes and stuff. The computers are awesome though... his monitor (he requested it) is a 19" flatpanel with DUal DVI.. one of which is connected to top secret server one is connected to his workstation. Theyll get it out, probably better stuff than we will have.
