Just put SP2 on 2 machines so far. No problem on my 2700xp desktop, but lots of problems on my A64 Lap. Sandra starts to load, then just stops. Tryed to do a defrag and it stops at
3%. The harddrive light now keeps flashing like something's running, Boinc dosn't work right.
It just seems the overall speed of the lappy is now much slower :(

How do ya take SP2 out, add/remove

how many of you have tried burning CDs after installing SP2 ?

Reason I ask is my sister-in-law is having problems with Roxio and with the CD buring software that came with her HP all-in-one printer.

I installed it and it kept restarting my computer and giving me the blue screen. Said it was having driver conflicts....so I uninstalled it till all my hardware/software is support by SP2....

I just installed SP2 this afternoon. I defragged, checked for spyware and viruses, rebooted, did a system restore(my first!), rebooted, then installed SP2 via the CD I got from MS. It only took 30 minutes.
My system does seem a little faster. When I click on the Firebird or Thunderbird quick launch icon it starts up right away, it used to lag for a few seconds. Double clicking on a video file seems to bring up Windows classic player in a fraction of a second too. Even that god-awful adobe loads faster, and yes I'm using the lipo-version of Reader. I'm rather impressed. I turned off the firewall, I use Kerio.
Haven't had the need to burn a CD/DVD yet.
So far, so good.

My computer's overall speed has halved since installing it. I get the "blue screen of death" at least once a day, and my norton antivirus no longer works.

i get: "BAD_POOL_HEADER" for the error.

I have had it installed for awhile. I have no problems but the annoyance of a much slower boot time....

the only difference i DID notice was you need to turn on auto update service through services.msc to access windows update site  its a minor annoyance there.
other than that, i turn off all that gimmick BS firewall and 'security center' (laff, is this XP turning into ME?)
crap so nothing really stood out. at least everything worked just as fine and you get a peace of mind by having the latest patch.

should i disable AV or firewall software before isntalling? I've heard of people with Norton where it only worked when they had it switched off. I use Zonealarm Pro and Antivir v6.27.00.00

There can definitely be a problem in SOME brands of motherboards,

IF:

1. The motherboard bios doesn't have a fully and correctly updated "CPU microcode", per Intel's specification, to support Prescott P4's.

+
2. A Prescott CPU.

+
3. WinXP SP2, which will BSOD, if the XP SP2 version of the file "update.sys" runs at startup.

So: anyone who is using a Prescott CPU, should definitely update their motherboard bios, before installing XP SP2.

My PC started auto-rebooting itself during games or when lots of stuff was open. Then I removed SP2 and it hasn't done it since .... interesting.

I had problems with it when I installed it. I created a slipstreamed install and did a fresh reinstall - been working fine since then.

Are you using the classic start menu? SP2 doesn't remove the pic from the "default" start menu.

As long as you are using the "XP Start Menu" (vs. "Classic") and you have the welcome screen enabled, you should see your picture.
