It spends 10 minutes doing a painfully slow extraction of all the files it needs to install. Then, AFTER you've waited forever for it to decompress everything, it tells you, "you must be on AC power before beginning the installation"

Does it give you the option to plug in your laptop before continuing? Of course not, it just deletes all that stuff it spent the last ten minutes decompressing so that you have to do it over again. :|

Mine won't even detect SP2 for me.
I have the automatic update and it won't load SP2 for me.
On a clean computer, it will update SP2 foe me but not this one.
Can you just download SP2 and install it yourself ??

Same here.

You know what they say about 99% of computer issues being user error.

i have 2 programs giving me issues:

CPUIdle Extreme and MBM 5370

Its a small issue. SP2 won't allow them to autostart with windows. The check marked boxes are empty even after I check them. To solve this I just placed the exe's in the Start Up folder.

I would definiately NOT recommend SP2 to ANYONE.

Sure it gets rid of a bunch of security holes..but knowning microsoft, probably opens up more!

Also, with the stupid firewall thingy, you can't use programs that use ports. Unless you unblock or turn it off, but not everyone knows about it

I'm using Linux as my firewall, don't need no POS windows firewall.

Some less technical users would probably find SP2 a gift from hell if they don't know how to turn off a few things

No, it wasn't a firewall issue. And he installed it right after a fresh install of XP. It was a cdrom issue - it would keep giving an error message whenever he tried to install a couple games (UT2004 and Far Cry). I think it was an ASPI driver thing w/Nero.

So it could have been a issue with Nero and SP2? Seems like there will always be a few problems here and there. There are so many variables in any given system it's impossible to make things perfect. It's sort of interesting that his problem is blamed on SP2 when it could have been a Nero problem...or a combination of both. I know some earlier versions of Nero have issues with SP2, and it's simply a matter of updating Nero...

Oh c'mon man. Control Panel --> Window Firewall --> Off. There's only two choices...On and off. Two mouse clicks and clicking a bullet point. It's really not that hard.

Yes, to you and I it's not that complicated. In fact we can probably each do it in our sleep.

However, never forget that there are lots of people out there who know jack shit[/b] about computers.

And if you don't believe me, check out the tech support horror stories on the internet. Heck we even got a few ones in here

Well, Nero was working on XP before he reinstalled. I'm not sure what version of Nero he has, but it's not new so that could be it. In any case, I think I'll hold off installing for a while until a few more of the kinks get worked out. ;)
