I have cable internet that requires DHCP Client service to be running before I can logon to the network. Now, its on Automatic Start Up but after a reboot its disabled and I have to manually restart it before I can logon.

I am having the same problem SP2 Installed on 5 PCs. All a variety P2,3 qnd 4 processors, none less than 51MB RAM with XP Pro. Al PC s have been running without problems for months. After rebooting XP Pro will not connect with the router. When trying to repair the connection, XP says the router will not provide a IP address. Running IPCONFIG the IP addres is there! I back out SP2 and everything works okay. Anybody got an answer? thanks

I had a connection problem with SP2 after install(I too have a router),it wouldn`t let me connect to the net at all,I had to go into the "exceptions tab" in Windows firewall icon which is in Control Panel and tick all the boxes,do note the firewall was disabled but it wouldn`t let me connect unless I ticked all the boxes,so give that a try worth a shot.

maybe manually input the router's address for DHCP in the network configuration? It has worked fine on my machine so far with DHCP enabled, but I manually entered everything later anyway.
