XP slowdown with skins

Does anyone know if using XP skins slow down your system (for ex. if I'm using a xp1600+, 256 mb ddr 2100, gf4 ti4400?

Are there various intesities of "skinnage" that put undo taxation on your system resources?

Thanks for any help you may be able to offer

I think winXP does slow down if you use custom skins especially if you have 256ram. I have 512sdram and i noticed alittle slow down when i used winxp skins.

If you have all the graphical extras turned on, you may notice a difference. Your system is pretty powerful though so I wouldn't worry too much.

I use Windows XP themes via the uxtheme.dll hack and I dont notice any slowdowns when I run them. I have a PII 400 with 256megs ram.. I do see slowdowns when I use 'Show Shadows Under Menus' so I just turn that one off. But your system should be plenty fast to handle it all.
