after installing windows updates and my palmpilot software, the computer no longer will shut down from the startup menu. It wont even give me a choice on restart, shutdown or standby. I have to manually shut it off at the case.

Palm pilot m105 wont communicate with computer.

I also am having problems with my cdburner. its a sony 12x write. I constantly get buffer underuns and other errors. Sometimes it crashes my whole system.

I am thinking about setting up a dual boot system with ME tp use with the programs that i cant get to work with XP. I know it doesnt have the compatibility issues that XP has.

Buffer underrun errors occur often when trying to burn a CD while doing other things on the system. Running other programs, surfing the net, etc. can cause this error when burning simultaneously. Newer drives have smart-burn or similar technology that help eliminate this problem, but older drives are SOL. You can try lowering the burn speed to see if you can eliminate your problem that way. Turn off all screen savers, un-needed background programs, etc. and see if that fixes your problem. You can also check out this thread to see if it helps you any. I didn't read the entire thread, but it looked promising at first glance. see if you can gather any useful knowledge to help you.

Since 2k needed the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers on boards with that chipset, XP may have the same problem. If you have a board with the VIA chipset, you should take a look at upgrading thre drivers, too. I checked, and found that your board does use the VIA chipset, so definitely look at your drivers.

I have this board my self. I would upgrade to via 4 in 1 version 4.37 (even though via claims you don't need it with xp) also does your palm docking station communicate through usb? go to www.usbman.com and download the usb filter driver, also do a search on google or somewhere and find the via pci latency patch. This should help, post if it does not.
