XP Setup not detecting the SATA Raptor

First let me describe the equipment:

MSI NEO-LSR 875P

WD Raptor SATA (1)

Windows XP Home

Well I'm trying to get the new system running but I've hit a snag. Windows XP setup runs from the CD-ROM, but it eventually gets to the point where it doesn't detect a hard drive. My MSI board came with a "Intel IAA RAID XP Driver for ICH5R" diskette, which I suspect is the one it wanted at the beginning by pressing F6. So I pressed F6 and it eventually asked for the disk, and I put it in. It recognized the driver it wanted to use, and started back up again. Then when it gets to the poin where it asks if you want to install or repair XP. I press enter to continue as it asks.

And it said there's no hard drive - press F3 to quit.

Is there somethin I'm doing wrong here?

I'm not familiar with the board, but I'd be looking in the BIOS for any options to enable SATA. Also look at BIOS screen at first boot to see if the drive is recognized.

You may need to change boot device to SCSI somewhere in there too, or after the XP install the system may not boot off the HD. Right now you're set to boot off the CD ROM.

The BIOS will contain the answers to your problem I'm sure.

Make sure SATA is enabled in the BIOS and that the SATA BIOS is picking your drive up. Also, you might want to disable the other ATA channels you aren't useing while you get winxp to check for the drive.

All right, I thought I'd looked but didn't see any place to enable SATA in the BIOS. I'll look deeper and let you know how it turns out.

You may have to 'initialize' the drive......

Admin tools> computer management> disk management> Find the drive in question in the lower right panel. I forget if it's a right or left click on it, but from here I think you can fiqure it out ;)

You can also format the drive from that panel..........

If you look at the manual for the ICH5R. There's a boot screen with drives listed. Press ctrl+I to enter the raid setup. Does the drive show up there?
In the regular bios go to advanced bios features. Boot device select make sure try other boot device is enabled

She's up and running in all her 2.8GHz / 800MHz FSB / SATA / Radeon 9800 glory! :D

I finally found where to enabled SATA after R'ing The F'ing M.

Now all I need is something to test her and see what she's got.

Glad you're up and running. I just set up two of these in RAID 0. I've got XP Pro installed and haven't had time to get any further with them. XP installed really, really fast.:D
