XP Setup Hangs & BSODs

Yeah, I realize I'm on a topic roll, but I've got problems that need fixing! 😛 Having a large non computer-savvy family and lots of computers means I get stuck with fixing the darned things 😉. Anyways, right now I'm currently working on reformatting a computer with WinXP Pro. I pulled an IDE 60GB Western Digital off an old Dell comp we had lying around. I've never had any problems in that Dell harddrive wise, and I expected it to be the same in this other computer. Boy was I wrong. XP setup works like it should until after the format, when it restarts and begins the actual installation. From there it hangs at installing drivers, with 37 minutes left to go. It stays there for quite a while but the splash screens continue to change. Then after a few minutes of inactivity it completely crashes and BSODS giving the error:

STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x8985E7F0, 0x8985E964, 0x805D1370)

Beginning dump of physical memory.

I just installed XP using the same CD on my new computer a few weeks ago, so I know the CD is working.

I read that having any extra peripherals might crash the setup, so I disconnected everything but the PS/2 keyboard. Tried again, still BSODed. So I took the HD out and plugged it in my good comp. Chkdsc gave no errors. I then tried to install XP using that computer and still the exact same thing happened 🙁

So what's going on here? Thanks in advance!
 
check the jumper, make sure it's set to master. Also, I would put it on the primary IDE channel, and your cd drive on the secondary.

If you're getting the exact same bluescreen errors using the same hard drive on 2 different pc's, then the hard drive is definitely the culprit.

You need to test the hard drive using western digital's diagnostic utility from their website. Also, if the drive passes the extended test, then try writing zero's to the drive and then attempt to install windows again on it. 🙂
