XP Security Descriptors can't be fixed

On one of my drives, scandisk and also Norton Scandisk report problems with the Security Descriptors. They can't fix the problem at all. Upon reboot they say problem still exists. Is this a serious issue, and should I re-format and re-install XP? On Norton's webpage, it says the MBR Master Boot Record may be corrupt beyond repair. How does this relate to Security Descriptors? What exactly are Security Descriptors? Otherwise my HD detects no other errors.

If the MBR was corrupt you wouldn't be able to boot.

If you let chkdsk run on bootup and it still didn't fix them, I'd just make sure I had a recent backup and not worry about it until it causes problems because it probably won't.

Did you try running "fixmbr" from the XP recovery console? I don't really know what they are either, but I would guess that that would restore the MBR to an "acceptable" state. But, like Nothinman said, it's probably OK in any event.

Scandisk? Do you mean chkdsk?

Run a chkdsk /f against the drive.
