I replaced my mobo last night and did an XP Repair install. It was working away and all of a sudden it said cannot find "asms" in the I386 folder on my XP CD in my CD-Rom drive?? This was using my backup copy of XP Pro, which I have used before for clean installs. So, I popped in my original CD, it promptly continued no problem! I made the backup using Nero's CD Copy function. Why did this happen?

Simple answer: who knows, don't use that CD again. If the original works fine... maybe just the CD wasn't a good burn and can't be read now.

Sometimes i find it is because their is a slight bit of dust etc on disk. I give it a clean and a way it goes with out a problem.

Yeah, especially with cheap blank CD-R disks, like the ones that are shiny on both sides.

This was a nice Verbatim Blue, but older, only 16x and burnt on an HP burner, yech!

I'll make a new backup on my Lite-On and Fuji media...
