hi,

my system with xp professional crashed and I had to reinstall the operating system; I repartioned the disk and reformated to install.

but I keep getting a error box: Shutdown initiated by NT Authority\System, Remote Procedure Call terminated unexpectedly.

and the system shuts down.

when I set the service to restart after RPC shutdown, I began getting another error message:
16-bit Substystem error box:
c:\window\system32\dmc.exe - down.com 4 8.23 6.3 48021
The NTVDM CPU has ebncountered an illegal instruction

I reinstalled xp 3 times and it still happens; I have two other drives, which I didn't reformat -- not sure if they are
creating an issue or what may be causing this problem and there's no indication that the primary drive is acting funny.

If anyone knows I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
PJ Abode

you're being infected with the blaster worm as soon as you go online.
you need to download, save & install this patch before going online.
also turn on your firewall before going online.
