Here is my previous thread

Any ideas?

Do you think a clean reinstall is in order?
or would it be better with this CPU to drop it down to 2K
(dude will be pissed because he spent the $ for XP though)

I would try a clean install of XP first without NSW, ZA, etc. Add your chipset drivers first thing. I am a big fan of Win2K, but the boot time is much slower than XP, and your customer probably is not going to like it.

NSW 2004 hs been a problem for many users, especially on less than the latest and greatest.

ZA 5 has some serious problems that will bring your system to a crawl. On my last visit to their tech support, they noted in a private response that I would be better off to go back to 4.5 temporarily until they resolve the issue.

Note that these two problems will not be on all systems, but older ones do seem to be more affected.
<FYI>, I have run XP Pro on something as small as a 750 and as long as it has plenty of memory it ran just fine.

I've had a similar problem on a Dell pc before with XP.

It was a slightly older model than yours, (815 chipset) but would crawl with XP on it. (Originally came with ME)
This was especially true after installing Norton AV.

In the end we went with Win2K and it worked like a charm.

My advice would be to give 2K a go if you can't resolve the issues, even if it boots slower, the family member is going to be happier if their system works ok.
Then sell the pack XP on ebay. :)
