I'm going to upgrade my comp to a 2600+ and new vid card in about a week.

Anyone know of any problems that Xp has when the hardware is changed? I know is that the product id# is generated from the hardware in the computer, so would I have to reactivate again? Or will it just simply lock up and refuse to let me get into the desktop? Thanx.

It may prompt you to reactivate...try changing one piece..then the other a few days later

Why? What's your reasoning behind that? He may have to activate twice then.

Do it all at once. If you have to reactivate it will prompt you when you boot up. Try doing it over the internet. Chances are it will work. If you can't give them a call and they will do it over the phone. I don't know anyone that has waited more than 3 minutes on the phone with MS waiting to reactivate XP for them.

You might have to call Microsoft, which is totally automated if you're lucky. Unfortunately for me, I usually have to wait for a CSR. It seems like whenever I install nForce 2 drivers, I get the "Your system has changed drastically, you need to reactivate your product". More or less a nuisance than something to worry about...

It depends on a couple things. If nothing has changed other than these two items over the past 90 days, no, you should not have to reactivate. Generally it takes a few hardware changes to require a reactivation. In your case, you should be fine. But, if reactivation is needed you can probably do this over the internet, unless you have activated more than (I think) 3 times in the past 90 days.
