Why did I have to set up another administrator account besides the built in one? I just wanted 1 admin account. Also, in the "Documents and Settings" folder there are some users I never even set up: Network Service, Default User, and Local Service. Who are these users? I also see a user by the name of "System" in my task manager. This computer is not networked, just set up for multiple users.

Creedyou, when you install XP it asks for the list of people who are going to use that computer, and you have to put in at least one. That user gets put into the user account database as an Administrator by default. I guess Microsoft did this to help newbie users get started. If you don't want that account to have Administrator rights, you can change that. If you don't want that account at all, you can log in as Administrator and then delete it.

You don't need to worry about what you're seeing under "Documents and Settings" and in the Task Manager. Default User is just a folder that holds the configuration settings that all user accounts added to the system will receive. The user called System you see in Task Manager is just the user assigned to the operating system itself.

But I can't even log on as the built in administrator account. When I first installed XP and it asked for the first user, I wasn't able to select it as a limited account, it said I must first have an administrator account. So I created an admin account and now I have 2 admins, and I don't want that.

Use the second admin account to set the pw for the first. Then login as the 'real' admin account and delete the new account.

also at the login screen you can hit ctrl. alt. del. twice and you can manually type in login info(make sure you acually logout not switch users)! just type Aministrator and password that you set up!
