XP Profile Corrupt

So my HDD is on the fritz and apparently my user profile was corrupted (XP Pro). It built a new one named TEMP that it goes to now for my account. The old profile BRIAN is still there with all the proper stuff in it. Is there anything I can do to fix it, or do I just need to back it up, start over with a new profile, and piece together the various program information, email, etc. that I can? Would like to avoid format because I'm going to do that a month from now anyway when I switch mobos. Thanks.
