so uh, about ever minute to two mintues i get an error window that says "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." im just ignoring it right now, but its on top of the other windows, and is rather annoying, and if i click send or don't send it'll close my windows and pop back up in about a minute or two... uh, any ideas?

Sounds to me like you just need to clean it out a bit... something is running and causing the error. Do you use Spybot S&D, Ad-aware, anything like that? Also, do you use P2P software and is it running? Just a few quick things to check.

Use memtest86 to test the ram. Run it for ~10 hours.

Event viewer is under administrative tools in the control panel. You will have to log into the machine as an administrator to view it though.

what am i looking for i the event viewer? theres a bunch of errors under the application tab, information, error, information, error a bunch of times, about ever 10 seconds for about a minute each time several times the last hour, the other two don't seem too out of the ordinary though

What do you have for a firewall and antivirus software? Be specific about the version of the antivirus software, eg "Norton Antivirus 2005" and not "Norton."

Grab a free 15-day trial of Norton Antivirus 2005 from here and see if it finds anything. Important: after installation, go through all of the options and max out all detection options, then launch a full scan of the hard drives, or at least your system drive.
