XP Pro

Short answer is yes, like all things it all depends on what you want and expect with the upgrade to a new OS and if your current hardware is good enough since XP likes decent amount of ram to get the best perfomance etc, however XP is superior to ME in many ways & I`ve found XP to be rock stable in general and also a good gaming OS as well.

yes, run from "ME" as fast as you can

if you have at least 128MB ram, go for it

What he said...

But, Get at least 256mb ram to keep things happy and do NOT do an upgrade...Backup your important stuff and do a clean install. Upgrades suxors big time, but you mileage may vary.

Good luck

Ram definitely is not a problem. I have 512mb. The first computer I had only had 128 and I was always running out of memory doing photo stuff. I don't think I will ever have less than 256 again. Got another question. Will the newer installation CDs have the updated version or will I still have to download SP1?

FordFreak, the copies of XP at the retail store I work at do not currently have SP1 on them, so yes you will have to download SP1, hope this helps.

You dont have to get Pro. XP Home does basically everything Pro does except for a few things. It all depends on what you need. If you dont want to spend the extra $$$ for pro then just get Home, it'll probably do everything you want.

D/l WinXP service pack1 from Here and burn it on CD instead of having to use Windows update. Saves a ton of time if for some reason you have to re-install XP. You can even create a slipstreamed install of WinXP+SP1 to do it all at once. Search the forums here and you will find how..

I second that... unless you know why you need Pro, you probably don't.

Don't believe the hype.

edit: oh yeah, SP1 is about 120MB IIRC. You shouldn't have any problems.
