Just upgraded to XP SP-2 and my three drive system won?t work. I have an ATA/100 PCI controller card where only one drive is working. The drive on the slave cable is the only one working. When I hook up my 3rd drive it locks up the system. Is it possible I need to upgrade to an ATA/133 card? I don?t think the cable is bad because it worked fine just days ago, also tried all kinds of jumper combinations on the HD?s and no difference. Nothing has changed in BIOS either.

Any ideas?

I have Windows XP Pro with SP 2 and both my drives (80 GB and a 40GB UATA100) work fine. But, you have an add-on PCI UATA100 controller card whereas mine is native to my Abit-NF7-S v1.2. I think you'll have to update the driver for the PCI card or go back to SP 1. :)

You know your getting old when??????Before I posted the above message it totally slipped my mind that I hooked the drive up on the same cable (slave position) coming off the Mother board and it still locked, but when I hooked the same drive on the PCI card on the slave connector it boots. Would CMOS battery need to be changed or something like that? Also could power supply have something to do with this problem? I even did a MBR on the drive thinking it might be damaged, but can access in the slave position on the PCI card ok, so I know it is a bootable drive.

Sorry this information slipped my mind but with so many combinations and changes I totally forgot.

So the bottom line is the drive boots off the PCI slave position and locks the system in all other combinations.

Thanks for any help

You know that you are an idiot or in this case, more likely you are very confident in your abilities to bend PC's to your will that you forget to plug something in and spend weeks shouting at people for even suggesting it.

I remember having a monitor problem and my mam asked, where does this plug go? It was the VGA plug ><

Being upended by someone who thought they'd broke my pc when touching the mouse turned my monitors back ok..... is just sheer embarrassment.
