XP Pro Vs. XP Home

I just built a computer for a friend and he bought XP Pro. Recentley his co-Workers in the IT Dept told him that Home was much better for gaming because Pro had extra DLLs running. Is their any truth to this & is Pro inferior to Home? And would Home be a better Gaming OS then Pro? Just wanted everyone else's opinion.
 
XP Pro has better security and supports Intel HT Technology. The Pro version probably does have extra resources running in the background in comparison to Home so there is truth in that but I think the extra resources running in the background are pretty negligible
 
I like running HOME on my laptop, and run PRO on all my desktops.

By the Way Algere, HOME supports HT also.

On paper, yeah, PRO does run extra services that are not needed on HOME, but i have tested games on both setups and never really noticed any difference either way...

There probably is a bit of a difference since Pro supports a few things that Home doesn't, but if it makes a performance difference you're doing something really wrong.

that and networking w/ home is a pain.... isn't still sitting on winn98?

XP Home is the same NT system as XP Pro, just with a bunch of stuff limited and/or disabled.

Home supports HT as well, just not SMP.

Did Home always support HT or was it through some update? cause when HT came out I remember hearing that Pro was the only WinXP version that supported it.

As specified by someon else XP Pro does ue more resources, but they are negible and the advantages that you can get from them are worth it. They are basically the same, XP Pro is Windows NT version that should have come after Win 2k, but they changed the NT name for marketing purposes. Windows XP Home is a XP Pro cut down version. just like AndyHui said Windows comes only with notepad and Wordpad. You would need to get other software to complement it. I would suggest you to download and install open office and also gimp. The only thing that windows is good for after a fresh install the only thing windows is good for is SOLITARY 😉.

Openoffice is an extremely good alternative to Microsoft Office, and in my opinion better than M$ office and my favorite option is to export documents to pdf. Openoffice also stores files using its own xml format which is very good and compresses the size of the file. Gimp is a very good image manipulation program, for most users including myself does all what you need, no need to have photoshop with gimp.

There was some confusion bnack then since it doesn't support SMP, so some people assumed that it wouldn't support SMT(or HT in Intel-talk) either.
 
ive run xp home and pro. on a clean install i see just a 16 point drop in pcmark2002 with pro. i think that much does not matter so i run pro.
