XP PRO: System Restore

A friend of mine recently formatted his computer and i setup seperate partitions on his computer for future formatting reasons and other things. He calls me up today and says he has a virus and wants to system restore ( HAH ) but he doesnt want to lose things on the other partitions he has put on there recently.

Basically my question is, is there any way to specify which harddrive/partition to 'restore' not just the whole computer?

nope. System restore takes a snapshot of system configurations and will restore the entire machine to the state of the restore. The data, however, will still be there. The references to the data are what is taken away. Tell him, also, that most viruses copy themselves into the systems restore as well. Have him turn off system restore and use the appropriate method to remove that particular virus, rather than restore. It will save him lots of time and headaches.
