XP Pro - Restart is failing

This is more of a minor nuisance than anything serious, and as far as I can tell, the only time this occurs is with a soft restart (hardware reset is fine).

I do a Shutdown -> Restart (after those Windows updates, etc). XP shuts down correctly, but nothing happens during the restart -- all the components remain up and running, drives and fans are still spinning, but the monitor remains blacked out. The restart never makes it to the motherboard logo screen, no motherboard beeps.

My specs are in my signature.

EDIT: I'm in the middle of browsing the Nvidia forums...I hope they didn't goof up the drivers, but that's looking like a possibility based on what I'm seeing.

Does it happen to be a Samsung LCD?

No...that's kind of a random question isn't it? It's one of those common, non-widescreen Dell LCDs, I can't remember the exact model though since I don't have it in front of me at the moment. Anyways, I updated my original post.

I have seen more soft restart problems occuring with Samsung LCD's than any other.

But since that's not it...do you have the most up to date BIOS?

Yep, I updated the BIOS to the most recent (dated sometime around April 2007). And I've used that Dell monitor before, just a month ago, with no restart problems. Yes, I have USB things connected.

I might try reverting the Forceware drivers to the ones that came with the CD instead of the latest Nvidia ones.

The next time this happens, I might also try plugging the monitor into each of the three video outputs to see if at least one of them has the signal.

Try removing the USB devices. One of them might be the cause. I fixed a similar problem yesterday. My friend's laptop did not want to boot. It turned out that his old MP3 player for some reason prevented Windows from booting.
