I bought a Abit motherboard, NF7-S2 a few weeks ago I couldn't get to post. Thinking it was DOA, I ordered another board a MSI K7N2 Delta2, both of which are nForce2 boards.

Well I made some changes in the bios of the MSI and after 2 days I couldn't get it to post again. Learning that nForce2 boards can run into problems sometimes corrupting the bios, it made me think to try again with the Abit board, so I left it on clear cmos and took the battery out and left it in the box for 24 hours on clear.

The next day I got the Abit to post but the MSI still wouldn't go. My question is even though these are the same chip motherboards, but of course with their differences, do I really need to reinstall XP over, or can I just start it up with the Abit and for all the older devices just remove them from the device manager?

THANKS

Nope I didn't need to, I don't see why you would personally with the same chipset. Yes given there are diferences with other things, but I figured they should set them self right at restart and any other devices that need drivers will show up in the Device manager.

So I didn't reinstall and it's running just fine, so could anyone tell me then why it's not? Because personally I don't see how. In Unix/Linux it is the samething as long as the motherboard chips are identical you don't need to reinstall Unix or Linux.

THANKS

If you ask my opinion, I would definately reinstall, this way I know I have a new clean install WinXP with no garbage leftover from the original installation.

Well left overs are only drivers, but anyhow yes maybe good idea, but funny it's running great and I can't see that anything is left over other then the NIC drivers which I installed since they are different NICS, other then that they run everything the same.

ok I reinstalled it, after running for a few days without doing so, just to be safe, hehe ;)
