XP pro question

If I buy windows XP pro OEM does it require activation, or is it just a serial?

Also, does XP home support RDP (to connect TO it)?

I'm considering virtualizing one of my game servers and this will be on a leased dedicated server so I rather go legit to be safe. Idealy windows 2003 server would be the answer but I don't want to pay that much money. The application will run fine in XP.

Store bought OEM's still require activation. Only if you get it with a new machine from a vendor like DELL you wont have too

Ok good to know I can just use VNC anyway, as if my plan works out well I'll be putting the admin end of things behind the VMware WAN so I'll have to ssh tunnel through.

Another thing if I was to buy an OS off ebay or something, anything to watch out for, or should I avoid? I see some that say they are in original package. (though what they say and what they send could be different...)

Just trying to save as much money as possible but still stay legit, for this particuliar purpose.

If you want OEM XP, you'd be better off just buying it from Newegg.com (XP Pro $140, XP Home 90 with free shipping). Buying OEM software on eBay can be risky, and a quick price check shows it's the same price as Newegg.

"Used" legitimate Windows operating systems are seldom a bargain. At least not the "legal" ones. I sold an opened but unused XP Home retail box a few years ago on eBay and got almost as much as I'd paid for it at Best Buy two years before.
